What are "Women's movements?"

Hi,
I am a beginner and was just browsing the post about the gilded serpent review of Visual Melodies. I thought it would be very useful for a beginner like me.

I saw that "women's movement" was mentioned, but I am not familiar with that term. It seemed (from what I could understand) that women's movement was preferred by some dancers over a folkloric movement. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Could someone please explain it to me?

    "Women's movement"=Raqs Hammem (women's dance)

Basically, baladi movements that only women do. Egyptian Raqs Sharki is a blending of baladi with raqs sharki (Eastern) movements, PLUS ballet, and if you're truly modern, whatever other influences float your boat.

Fifi Abdo and Dina and two prime examples. Notice that they are not dancers trained in Western dance, and so they are "pure" examples of baladi.

    K xoxo
